Proyect Overview

Objective

Develop a spatial augmented reality (Spatial AR) experience for the Panduit Showroom, integrating VPS (Visual Positioning System) and LiDAR to create precise and scalable interactions that enhance product exploration, process validation, and technical training

Key Innovation

Combining 3D mapping technologies (LiDAR) with spatial AR to anchor interactive content to exact physical locations, enabling rapid adaptation to new spaces and needs

Scope of Work

1. Phase 1: Scanning and Mapping

  • Technology: LiDAR scanning to generate a point cloud (E57 format) of the Showroom.
  • Output: 3D map of the physical space, serving as the foundation for AR content anchoring.

2. Phase 2: AR Function Development

3-Button Interface (User-Centered UX)

  1. Visual Guide:
    • Interactive product exploration using 3D models overlaid in the real environment.
    • Assembly animations and real-time technical specifications.
  2. Checklist:
    • Step-by-step process validation (e.g., component installation) with visual feedback (✅/❌).
    • Conditional logic integration (e.g., alerts for incomplete steps).
  3. Training:
    • Training modules with interactive quizzes (Q&A) in AR.
    • Simulations of technical scenarios (e.g., common failures and solutions).

Technologies

  • Onirix Web XR : Cross-platform development basado en la web-browser
  • VPS (Visual Positioning System): Stable content anchoring to physical coordinates.

3. Phase 3: Implementation

  • Precision and stability testing in the Showroom (VPS anchor validation).
  • Staff training for interface usage and content updates.

Key Features:

Scalable:

  • Modular system allowing content adaptation (3D models, checklists, quizzes) to new spaces or products.
  • LiDAR mapping replicable in other showrooms or industrial plants.

Cross-Platform:

  • Accessible experience on iOS and Android mobile devices without specialized hardware.

Modular Design:

  • Editable content (texts, 3D models, animations) via Unity admin panel.

Results

  • Precision: Content anchoring with <5 cm margin of error thanks to VPS + LiDAR.
  • Engagement: 30% reduction in training time compared to traditional methods.
  • Flexibility: Ability to reuse the solution in other projects (e.g., trade shows, industrial plants)

Technologies Used

  • LiDAR (3D Scanning)
  • Web XR (AR Development)
  • VPS (Onirix Scan, 8th Wall or similar for spatial anchoring)
  • Blender (3D Model Optimization)
